Encore Mobility
Senior Dog Supplement:
Frequently Asked
Questions

Product Information

Q: What are the active ingredients in Encore Mobility™ Senior Dog Supplement?

A: Our supplement contains two proven ingredients, which work synergistically

Q: What kind of conditions is Encore Mobility™ helpful for?

If your dog suffers from any of the conditions below, Encore Mobility™ can help:

    • Joint pain and inflammation (e.g., hip dysplasia)
    • Connective tissue health and healing (tendons, ligaments). For example, to assist the body in healing ACL tears.
    • Stimulation of the immune system
    • Cognitive support
    • Adrenal support (stress support)
    • Senescence support
    • Red blood cell production
    • Wound healing
    • Fracture repair
    • Cardiovascular health

Q: How long after starting Encore Mobility™ until I see results?
A: Generally, dogs show positive changes in as short as one to two weeks, sometimes even within a few days.

However, because it can take longer in some dogs to see improvement, please continue to give the supplement for a full 30 days before judging efficacy.

Q: Why do you recommend Encore Mobility™ Senior Dog Supplement over the other products on the market? How is your product better?
A: The difference in our product versus others is the New Zealand Deer Velvet ingredient. This has been demonstrated to possess immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antioxidant, antibacterial, and blood building properties. Deer Velvet also contains growth factors, including IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor), a natural hormone that stimulates cell growth.

Our active ingredients are uniquely combined, and not found together in any other mainstream joint supplements in the USA. The improvement I’ve come to expect in my patients goes far beyond mobility and joint health. This supplement seems to turn back the clock for my senior patients and improve their vitality and vigor.

In several studies on the human side and in at least one study on dogs, velvet antler was determined to be of value for patients with osteoarthritis by providing both anti-inflammatory effects and the building blocks useful for the health and healing of joints, muscle, and connective tissue.

Q: What is deer antler velvet?
A: The word “velvet” refers to the immature stage of growth of the deer antler. It is during this phase that the entire structure of the antler is harvested for use.

This is performed under strict veterinary supervision and with local anesthetic, so that the antler (which was going to be shed anyway) is removed and the deer goes back to life as normal. The antler is regenerated each year.

Q: Is using deer antler as a supplement a new fad?
Deer antler velvet has been used in Chinese medical formulations for humans for over 2000 years for its nourishing, tonic, and healing effects.
Q: Is the deer velvet humanely sourced?
Yes, it is harvested under veterinary supervision with a local anesthetic, and this industry is strictly regulated by the government of New Zealand.

The deer regrow their antlers each year.

Q: What studies support your product claims?

Please see this article which I wrote for publication in a veterinary scientific journal: Deer Antler Velvet: The Science Behind the Supplement

At the conclusion of the article, I cite 25 references, but this one is my favorite:

Clinical evaluation of a powder of quality elk velvet antler for the treatment of osteoarthrosis in dogs

This 2004 study by The University of Montreal was published by the prestigious Canadian Veterinary Medical Association and concluded that the arthritic dogs in the study showed significant improvement with antler velvet supplementation.

Q: Where can I purchase Encore Mobility™ senior dog supplement?

You can purchase Encore Mobility™ online at Dr. Buzby’s shop.

Administration/Dosage

Q. If my dog takes more than one pill daily, is it best to give them all at once or spread out dosing throughout the day?
A: It really makes no difference, so we recommend that you do what works best for your schedule.

However, giving your dog Encore Mobility™ on an empty stomach IS important. We recommend the tablet(s) be given 20-30 minutes before a meal for optimal absorption.

Q: How important is the “take on an empty stomach” recommendation?
A: It’s important but not crucial. Usually, the Encore Mobility™ tablets are taken like a treat, which makes it easy to give them without food.

But if your dog did not read the book on this, that’s okay, just disguise in a pill pocket or as little food as possible.

For example, it can be crushed and added to a small amount of food, but ideally that would be 20-30 minutes before the full meal is given.

Q: What is the dosage for a toy breed dog because I only see dosing for 0 to 25-pound dogs on the label?

Because this product is so safe, it’s not wrong to dose a 5-pound dog and a 25-pound dog the same—one tablet per day.

I give my own 10-pound Chihuahua one tablet per day. However, for a tiny dog (ie. 5 pounds or less), you could give 1/2 tablet daily as the dose.

Q: Are the tablets easy to break in half?
They are not scored. We recommend using a pill cutter.

Product Safety

Q: Is this supplement veterinarian approved?
Yes, the formula was created by a veterinarian and is recommended by veterinarians worldwide. We would be happy to provide you with veterinarian testimonials upon request.
Q: What are the side effects of this supplement?
A: Encore Mobility™ is extremely safe and not associated with any significant side effects.

However, any supplement on the market has the potential to cause diarrhea. Should this occur, stop the supplement for a few days, then back down on the dosage and work up slowly (over a week or so) to the full dose.

Q: Will this supplement upset a sensitive stomach?
A: It should not bother a dog with a sensitive stomach. However, I always recommend my patients start ANY supplement by using 1/2 of the full dose at first and slowly work up to the full dose over several days.
Q: Is it okay to continue giving my dog’s glucosamine and chondroitin supplement if I am starting the Encore Mobility™?
The short answer is yes. It is perfectly fine to mix with other supplements and medications.

The long answer is this: Glucosamine and chondroitin are naturally occurring in Encore Mobility™ in both active ingredients—the Green Lipped Mussel and the New Zealand Deer Velvet.

However, for most of my senior dog patients who are on a quality joint supplement like Dasuquin or Glycoflex, I don’t want to change more than one variable at a time in their care. So, I add the Encore Mobility™ in addition to what they are already doing.

It’s not going to hurt the dog to do both; but it may hurt your wallet. Some of my clients just continue to use both products long term; others stop their original supplement when it runs out and just continue with Encore Mobility™.

Q: Is Encore Mobility™ safe to use in young dogs?
Yes, it is safe and can be very beneficial, though we have chosen to market our product for senior and special needs dogs.
Q: Is Encore Mobility™ safe for a dog with allergies?
A: Yes, it is safe for the vast majority of dogs with allergies. The only “oddball” concerns would be shellfish allergy (because of the green lipped mussel component) or allergy to venison.

Both are rare in dogs, and I’ve never seen an allergy issue with our product.

Q: Is it safe to combine Encore Mobility™ with my dog’s NSAID medication (ie. Galliprant, Metacam, Rimadyl, Carprofen, Deramaxx)?
A: Yes, this is perfectly safe and it is very commonly done.
Q: Is it safe to combine Encore Mobility™ with my dog’s phenobarbital?
Yes, it’s safe, and the deer velvet should actually have some protective benefit for the liver from the potential side effects of phenobarbital.
Q: Is it safe to combine Encore Mobility™ with my dog’s gabapentin?
Yes, this is also safe and commonly done.
Q: I just opened the Encore Mobility supplement and there is plastic inside the bottle. Is this normal?
The plastic in the bottle is part of the packaging process. It is the manufacturer’s version of “cotton balls” to prevent the tablets from banging around and breaking up in transit from New Zealand, where it is manufactured.
Q: When I opened my 90-count Encore Mobility supplement, there was no internal seal across the inside of the bottle. Should I be alarmed?
A: Nothing to worry about. There is no seal inside the 90-count bottles because the seal is part of the lid design.
Q: Does the Encore Mobility™ need to be stopped before surgery?
A: No, it does not need to be stopped before surgery. In fact, it may speed recovery time and be beneficial post-operatively.
Q: Is deer velvet antler contraindicated in cancer patients?
For years I believed that it was concerning because of its growth factor properties which stimulate cell growth; however, in recent years, I have changed my mind.

There is no evidence that it causes harm, and deer velvet antler has been shown to have anti-tumor activity.

Q: What if my dog eats the entire bottle?
Because Encore Mobility™ is a “food”-based supplement, it’s safe. Worst case scenario, your dog may experience some transient and self-limiting diarrhea.
Q: What if my cat eats one of my dog's Encore Mobility™ tablets?

Our supplement is safe for cats too, but cats generally don’t consider it nearly as tasty as dogs do.
